Venue Hunting

February 20, 2007

We all decided to check out possible venues for our upcoming Graduation Ceremonies

We all travelled by convoy from the clinic and headed downtown. Who cared if there was a stop light? Or maybe, someone had a sudden onset of poor red and green color discrimination. What a coincidence!

The order of arrival may have differed from our convoy queue, but we all arrive and meet at the South Bank Area for our first destination, the University Club.

The venue offered a breathtaking view of some of Jacksonville's landmarks, namely the Jacksonville Landing, the Modis building, the Main Street Bridge and the city's tallest structure, the Bank of America building.

At our vantage point, we can see the St. John's River almost encircling the Alltel Stadium, site of the XXXIX Superbowl. The red Matthew's bridge and the green Hart's bridge expressway are also seen in the background.

After touring the University Club, we could not resist having a photo of the best view of the city at the top floor of Riverplace Tower. Also known as the South Trust Building, the 27-floor edifice ranks only as the city's fourth tallest , but it does remain the tallest building on the Southbank side of the St. Johns River. The University Club, located on the top floor, is an exclusive private restaurant and club where many of Jacksonville's biggest movers and shakers of the past few decades have wined and dined with a bird's eye view of the city.

We then decided to go across the river and take a look at the Hyatt, site of our second venue walk-through. We did enjoy the view of the Main Street Bridge. At night the structure is illuminated with numerous multicolored flashing lights. By the way, did we lose count of anyone?

We wonder where our next rendezvous will be. The Marriott perhaps? Anyway, we hope to see other sites so we can make our decision soon!
